AI Agents Explained — What They Are and How to Use One Today
AI agents aren't science fiction — they're inside tools you already use. In 10 minutes, understand what they are, why they matter, and try one today.

The idea
A chatbot answers your question. An AI agent acts on your behalf — it can browse the web, run code, read files, and complete multi-step tasks without you prompting every move. The difference matters: agents can automate workflows that used to require human judgment. You don't need to build one to benefit — you need to know how to use one. Understanding agents puts you ahead of 90% of professionals in your field.
Who is this for?
Karan Mehta
Marketing Manager · Mumbai
Karan used ChatGPT every day but felt like he was always doing the manual connective work — copy the output, paste it somewhere, rephrase, try again.
He spent 10 minutes understanding what an agent actually does differently, then tried Perplexity's agentic search mode on a competitive analysis he'd been putting off.
The agent browsed 14 sources, extracted the key points, and formatted a summary. Karan spent 5 minutes editing instead of 2 hours researching.
"The difference between AI that answers and AI that acts is the difference between a calculator and a colleague."
What you'll get
A clear mental model for AI agents
The difference between a chatbot, a copilot, and an agent — in plain language.
One agent tried in your actual work
Not a demo — a real task handed off to an agent in a tool you already use.
A map of where agents already run
Perplexity, Cursor, Claude, Copilot, Gemini — you're probably already using one.
A framework to evaluate any agent claim
When a vendor says "agentic AI," you'll know exactly what to ask.

Do the challenge
1Understand the three levels
Chatbot (answers) → Copilot (assists while you work) → Agent (acts autonomously on a task). Most AI tools sit at level 2. True agents are level 3.
💡 The test: does it stop and wait for you, or does it keep going? If it takes multiple steps on its own — browsing, writing, checking — that's an agent.
2Find an agent you already have access to
Perplexity (free), Claude with tools enabled, Gemini Deep Research, GitHub Copilot Workspace, or Microsoft 365 Copilot. Pick the one closest to your current workflow.
3Give it a real multi-step task
Something like: "Research the top 3 competitors in [market], summarise their positioning, and draft a comparison table." That's an agent task — not a chatbot question.
4Evaluate the output like a manager
Agents are fast but imprecise. Your job shifts from doing the task to reviewing the task. Check: is the reasoning correct? Are sources credible? What needs editing?
💡 I used an AI agent to research [topic]. It concluded [X]. Walk me through: Is this reasoning sound? What might it have missed? What would a human researcher check that the agent likely didn't?
Your template
AI Agent Task Template — Use This to Get 10x More from Agent Tools THE TASK BRIEF (what you'd give a human intern): Goal: [one sentence — what outcome do you need?] Context: [what does the agent need to know? keep it brief] Format: [table / bullet points / report / draft email] Length: [under 300 words / 1 page / as needed] AGENT-SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS: Sources to prioritise: [company websites / news / academic / any] Sources to avoid: [social media only / paywalled / older than 12 months] Tone: [professional / casual / technical] REVIEW CHECKLIST (what you check when it comes back): □ Are the facts verifiable? (spot-check 2–3 claims) □ Are sources credible and current? □ Is the structure what I actually need? □ What's missing that I know matters? □ Edit time needed: ___ minutes
