Comment Your Way Into Senior People's Networks
A cold DM to a senior leader gets ignored. A sharp, regular comment on their posts gets you noticed β and warms the door for everything else. Today you start the strategic-comment play.

The idea
Strategic commenting means leaving thoughtful, valuable comments on the posts of people you want to be in front of β senior leaders, hiring managers, people in your target field. A cold DM is easy to ignore; a sharp comment is public, low-pressure, and seen by them and their whole audience. Do it consistently and two things happen: the person starts recognising your name, and their followers discover you. It is the warm-up that makes every later ask β a connection, a referral, a conversation β far more likely to land.
Who is this for?
Varun Khanna
Junior PM Β· Noida
Varun wanted to break into product leadership but his cold messages to senior PMs went unanswered.
He picked 8 product leaders and left one genuinely useful comment on their posts a few times a week β adding an example or a sharp question, never "great post."
After six weeks, two of them recognised his name and accepted his connection; one referred him to a role. He never sent a pitch β the comments opened the door.
"You can't DM your way into someone's attention. But you can comment your way in."

Do the challenge
1Pick 8β10 people worth being seen by
List senior people whose attention would actually help: leaders in your field, hiring managers at target companies, respected voices in your niche. Follow them so their posts reach you.
π‘ Pick people who post regularly β you need a steady stream of posts to comment on. A brilliant person who never posts gives you nothing to engage with.
2Learn the "valuable comment" rule
A good comment does ONE of: adds a specific example, shares a relevant data point, asks a sharp follow-up question, or respectfully adds a different angle. Never "Great post!" or "Thanks for sharing" β those are noise and get ignored.
3Comment early and consistently
Comment within the first hour of their post (early comments get seen most) and aim for a few people, a few times a week. Consistency is what turns you from a stranger into a familiar name β one brilliant comment won't; twenty good ones will.
π‘ Here is a LinkedIn post I want to comment on: [paste post]. My background: [role/expertise]. Write me 2 thoughtful comment options that ADD value β one with a specific example from my world, one with a sharp follow-up question. Keep them short, genuine, and not flattering or generic.
4Only then make the connection
After a few weeks of visible, valuable comments, send a connection request that references your exchanges: "I've enjoyed your posts on X and our back-and-forth on Y." Now you're not a stranger β you're someone they recognise.
