Invoice Like a Pro โ Get Paid in Full, On Time, Every Time
Great work means nothing if you don't get paid. A clean invoice, clear terms upfront, and a calm follow-up script turn "still waiting on payment" into money in the bank.

The idea
Late and partial payments are rarely about a bad client โ they're usually about a vague agreement. Getting paid like a pro comes down to three things. First, set terms before you start: price, what's included, and when payment is due. Second, send a clean invoice with everything a finance team needs to pay without asking questions. Third, follow up on late payment with a calm, scripted nudge โ not an angry one. Do these and "still waiting to get paid" mostly disappears. This matters whether you freelance on the side or just need to reclaim an expense.
Who is this for?
Sana Sheikh
Freelance Designer ยท Indore
Sana did great work but was always "waiting to get paid" โ invoices drifted for weeks and one client paid short.
She started setting terms upfront ("50% to start, 50% on delivery, due in 7 days"), sent a proper invoice with those terms on it, and used a one-line follow-up on day 8.
Payments started landing on time. The short-paying client, now with clear terms in writing, paid in full.
"I thought chasing payment was awkward. Turns out clear terms upfront means you almost never have to chase."

Do the challenge
1Set terms before you start
Agree three things in writing before the work: the price, exactly what's included, and when payment is due (e.g. "due within 7 days of invoice"). This one step prevents most payment problems.
๐ก For bigger jobs, ask for a deposit: "50% to start, 50% on delivery." It filters out non-serious clients and guarantees you're never fully unpaid.
2Build a clean invoice
Include: your name/details, the client's details, an invoice number and date, a clear line-item of what you did, the total, the due date, and how to pay (bank/UPI). Missing any of these is why invoices sit unpaid.
3Send it promptly and confirm receipt
Invoice the day you deliver, while the value is fresh. A short note โ "Invoice attached, due [date], let me know if you need anything to process it" โ confirms they have what they need.
๐ก Help me write two short things for a client: 1. A one-paragraph TERMS note to send before I start (price: [X], includes: [scope], payment due: [when]). 2. A brief, professional invoice email to send on delivery. Keep both warm, clear, and confident โ not apologetic.
4Follow up late payment โ calmly
If the due date passes, send a scripted, friendly nudge on day 1 late: "Hi [name], just following up on invoice [#] which was due [date] โ could you let me know the expected payment date? Happy to resend if useful." Calm and clear beats angry every time.
